Ending the season on a high note

The theme “Heat Wave” didn’t begin to describe this past weekend for the Royals.

The hottest match of the season was played against the Columbus Coyotes on Saturday, May 5 at Tuckaseegee Park. Before kick-off at 1pm, both sides were already drenched in sweat during warm-ups. The heat didn’t keep the fans away though… with their parcels in hand and plenty water to hydrate; the stands were filled with Royals fans to cheer them on their final match of the season.

It was decided that this match would be played as Rugby 10s instead of 15s due the low number of players on both sides. Adam “Pinky” Stegall, joined the Coyotes since they didn’t have a hooker on their side to compete. It was long before a fellow teammate bumped heads with him and broke his nose forcing him out of the match. At least his nose matched the jersey!  Another causality of the match was William Howell with injured ribs. Though injuries and exhaustion occurred on both sides; each team played strong through the heat. After half, Columbus struggled to keep cool in the southern humidity resulting in a final score of 76 to 7.

The Royals finished the season 2-3, and ranked 4th at St. Louis’ Spring Fever Tournament. With this season’s record, they are definitely ready to represent the Carolinas at Bingham Cup this summer in Manchester, UK.

Watch out RuPaul!!

Crown Royal Flyer          Charlotte’s climate isn’t the only thing with a temperament in the Queen City. Miss Crown Royal 2012 promises that it will be MUY CALIENTE this Cinco de Mayo at Hartigan’s Pub. Our five contestants’ claws are as sharp as their wit, but only one can be crowned.
Miss Crown Royal is an annual Charlotte Royals RFC fundraiser where our rugby players turn in their cleats for a pair of heels and performs for your dollars. All money raised at this fundraiser will assist the Royals in getting to Manchester, UK to compete at the Bingham Cup. There’s only one rule at this event; the queen with the most tips gets crowned so make sure to tip your favorite queen often! A door open at 8pm and the show begins at 9pm. Get in early to ensure you have some of the Royals’ tasty Jell-O shots!
This year’s hostess will be the reigning queen for Miss Crown Royal 2011, Ms. Ferocia Starr. This will be her last performance in Charlotte before making her way to Charleston. We have a great lineup of contestants and guest performers!!! Here are a few:
Britney Queers is back from rehab after her breakdown in Miss Crown Royal 2009 and she’s ready to compete for the crown again. Those other girls competing better make sure their wigs are securely attached…
Mia Deporte, still scarred from Ms. Queers’ weave snatch, will guest perform doing what she does best – shake her hips and twirl!
Noah Dayd Ream is back after breaking hearts in Miss Crown Royal 2010! His moves will melt your heart…
You definitely don’t want to miss this!!! A huge thanks to Hartigan’s Irish Pub for hosting our event! And a special thank you to our sponsors Bear Kneads Massage Therapy, Community Association Management, The Flying Biscuit, Global2Net, HR Xpert, and Sidelines Sports Bar for their continued support. We also can’t forget our players, auxiliary members, and fans… Without you none of this would be possible!

Prom Dress Match- NEW FIELD LOCATION!!

The Charlotte Royals are excited about hosting our 3rd Annual Prom Dress Match this Saturday, April 21st,  against the Nashville Grizzlies. We had our “dress rehearsal” practice last night so there will be some pretty ruggers on the pitch this Saturday. Unfortunately, there is one change to match that should have a good result. The weather in Charlotte is calling for a 40% chance of rain on Saturday. Although I would love to play some muddy rugby, due to the restrictions on the current field, the match would have to be cancelled if/when it rained. Therefore, the match will be moved… again. We apologize for the change but there will be a greater chance that more rugby will be played on Saturday on the new field if it rains. The new pitch is Tuckaseegee Park (4898 Tuckaseegee Road Charlotte, North Carolina 28208). The Royals hope to see everything at the pitch on Saturday.
